The village

What to do in Patchogue Village

Patchogue is a small village with a working downtown, a theatre, a waterfront and the ferries to Fire Island. Almost all of it sits inside a mile of the house. This is in order of how far you have to go.

Next door: the bay and the band shell

Shorefront Park runs along the Great South Bay right beside the house, with a pier and a kayak launch near it. Rider Park is the same stretch of bay. Guests walk out and watch the sun go down from the pier most evenings. There is a playground in it too, which is the thing guests with small children write about afterwards: more on staying here with young children.

The Shorefront Band Shell is next door too, and in summer you can hear and see the concerts from the patio without leaving the house.

Swimming, and the catch

The Patchogue Beach Club is 0.21 miles away, a four or five minute walk, with a pool, a stretch of sand and a small fee. You are not allowed in the water there. That surprises people every season, so it is worth knowing before you walk down with towels and a plan.

Corey Beach is where you can actually swim in the bay. It is barely a mile away as the crow flies, but the road goes inland around the water, so it is about a nine minute drive. No pets there in any month, service animals aside, which is the town's rule and not ours. The rest of the dog detail is on bringing a dog to Patchogue.

Main Street, about a mile

Downtown Patchogue is 1.14 miles from the door, the same walk as the train station. It is where the restaurants, the bars and the shops are, and it is genuinely a walkable evening rather than a strip you drive to.

The Patchogue Theatre sits on East Main Street and is the main venue in the village, with music, comedy and touring shows through the year. In summer, Main Street closes for Alive After Five on Friday evenings. Both run to their own schedules, so check what is on for your dates rather than trusting a page written months earlier.

On the water

The Davis Park ferry terminal is 0.44 miles from the front door, so Fire Island needs no car. There is no scheduled service from December through March. Times, parking and the parts people get caught by are on catching the Davis Park ferry.

The village also has Mascot Dock and Marina on South Ocean Avenue, and Sandspit Park has a fishing pier and a marina. If you are coming to fish, ring the Village on 631-475-4300 first and ask what is allowed where. Rules differ pier by pier and we would rather you heard it from them than from us.

The Village's own tour

Patchogue has a short community video covering the parks, the downtown, the arts and the waterfront. It was produced for the Village by CGI Communications, who gave us permission to show it here. The parks chapter runs under a minute.

Distances measured 14 October 2026 and are straight-line from the house. Opening times, fees and event dates change season to season, so check before you set out.
